One client, Two landscaped gardens in High Wycombe

High Wycombe

Two homes and two different gardens, connected by the homeowners’ love of Millboard decking and outdoor living.

Steve Richardson and Rees De Liege bring practical skill and careful attention to detail to their work at S&R Landscapes. These High Wycombe projects show how decking and planting can respond to different levels, privacy needs and the way a family enjoys its garden.

A Raised Terrace for the First Home

The first project, completed in 2014, involved a steep rear garden. A raised decking terrace provided outdoor space beside the house, with a staircase leading to a second platform for the hot tub.

The layout made use of the changes in level, connecting the home with places to relax and enjoy the garden.

A New Garden for a Returning Client

When the homeowners moved to a new-build property in 2017, they returned for another garden transformation. Having enjoyed the decking at their previous home, they chose Millboard in Smoked Oak again and wanted the hot tub to remain central to their outdoor space.

The new garden offered a blank canvas, but overlooking from neighbouring homes made privacy an important part of the brief.

Decking, Planting and Hot-Tub Privacy

A generous decking area formed the main outdoor living space. Its height was planned around the bifold doors, while angular steps connected the different levels across the sloping garden.

Openings within the deck accommodated the hot tub and planting, giving the layout more interest than a single uninterrupted platform.

Taller planting helped screen the garden, soften views of the shed and create a more secluded setting around the hot tub. The plants also brought colour and depth to the decking scheme.

For Steve and Rees, these relationships matter: how the terrace meets the house, where the steps lead and how planting makes the finished space feel welcoming.

Revisiting the Garden Three Years Later

The second garden was revisited in 2020, three years after completion. The later photographs show the established planting alongside the decking, offering a view of how the scheme developed beyond installation.

Our approach

We believe a well-designed garden should be a pleasure to live in, thoughtfully built and made to last.

For us, good design starts with listening. We take time to understand how you want to use your garden, what matters to you and the character of your home.

We bring the same care to construction as we do to design. From the preparation beneath a patio to the finishing details around a border, each part contributes to the quality of the whole garden.

We favour materials suited to their purpose and planting that can thrive in its surroundings. We consider how your garden will mature and how much maintenance you want, creating a space you can enjoy for years to come.
