Replacement Millboard decking and integrated lighting gave this London home a refreshed connection to its garden.
Steve Richardson and Rees De Liege bring practical experience and careful workmanship to decking projects at S&R Landscapes. Their approach considers the complete installation, from the supporting structure to the steps, edges and finishing details.
Replacing a Failing Composite Deck
The existing decking had been installed less than two years earlier and was already deteriorating. Positioned immediately outside the rear doors, it affected the homeowners’ access to the garden and needed attention.
The agreed solution was to remove the existing deck and replace it. The project also offered an opportunity to improve its appearance and introduce lighting for evening use.
For Steve and Rees, choosing decking involves more than selecting a colour. The material, supporting structure, fixings and installation requirements all deserve careful consideration when planning a replacement.
Millboard Decking with Thoughtful Lighting
After reviewing suitable options, the homeowners chose Millboard Enhanced Grain in Limed Oak. Its pale colour and wood-grain texture complemented the house and brought a lighter finish to the terrace.
Concealed LED strips beneath the steps created a subtle lighting effect, highlighting the change in level after dark. Additional spotlights illuminated the property’s brickwork, connecting the deck visually with the home.
The lighting could be controlled by remote or phone app, making it straightforward to adjust for an evening outdoors.
This combination of materials and carefully integrated details reflects the approach Steve and Rees bring to their work: professionally installed decking that looks considered and suits the way you use your garden.
