Raised Millboard decking and bespoke balustrade in Windsor

Windsor

Replacement Millboard decking and a bespoke Accoya balustrade transformed the raised terrace of this Windsor home.

Steve Richardson and Rees De Liege bring practical experience and careful workmanship to decking and landscaping at S&R Landscapes. This project shows how the supporting structure, terrace edges and finishing details all contribute to a complete outdoor space.

Replacing a Deteriorated Garden Terrace

The homeowners discovered the condition of the existing deck soon after moving in, when a foot broke through a board. With young children and a dog using the garden, replacing the terrace became a priority.

The deck began directly outside the rear door, so its condition affected everyday access to the garden. It also lacked a balustrade around the raised area.

A site survey established the scope of the replacement, and the homeowners compared decking samples before choosing Millboard.

Careful Preparation and a Five-Day Installation

Once the quotation was agreed, removal of the old decking and installation of the replacement terrace and custom balustrade took five days.

Recycled plastic posts supported the new frame, with Use Class 4 treated timber joists used in the structure. The work brought the deck and its perimeter details together as one installation.

For Steve and Rees, preparation beneath the boards deserves the same attention as the visible finish. Careful setting out, cutting and fitting help create a terrace that sits comfortably with the house and garden.

A Bespoke Accoya Balustrade

The balustrade combined Accoya timber with stainless-steel cables and Sta-Lok fittings. Its light grey finish, specified as RAL 7044, balanced the darker decking and complemented the surrounding garden.

The slender cables kept the outlook open, allowing views towards the established planting. The finished terrace provided a more defined place to sit and enjoy the garden.

This balance of practical construction and considered appearance reflects the care Steve and Rees bring to their decking projects, from the overall layout to the smaller connections and fittings.

Our approach

We believe a well-designed garden should be a pleasure to live in, thoughtfully built and made to last.

For us, good design starts with listening. We take time to understand how you want to use your garden, what matters to you and the character of your home.

We bring the same care to construction as we do to design. From the preparation beneath a patio to the finishing details around a border, each part contributes to the quality of the whole garden.

We favour materials suited to their purpose and planting that can thrive in its surroundings. We consider how your garden will mature and how much maintenance you want, creating a space you can enjoy for years to come.
