Millboard decking installation in Kings Langley

Kings Langley

Smoked Oak Millboard decking created a contemporary terrace outside the bifold doors of this renovated Kings Langley home.

Steve Richardson and Rees De Liege bring practical experience and careful workmanship to decking and landscaping at S&R Landscapes. This project shows how thoughtful material choices and discreet access details can improve an everyday outdoor space.

A Terrace for a Growing Family

With a baby on the way and their home renovation complete, the homeowners wanted a garden that suited the next stage of family life. The terrace needed to complement the contemporary interior and connect naturally with the new bifold doors.

Planning the relationship between the doorway and decking was an important part of bringing the house and garden together.

Choosing Millboard in Smoked Oak

The homeowners compared samples from several decking ranges before selecting Millboard Enhanced Grain in Smoked Oak. Its colour and textured finish suited the style of their home.

A site visit established the area and project requirements before the quotation was agreed. The installation then took four days to complete.

For Steve and Rees, preparation and clear setting out are essential to a professional finish, from the supporting structure through to the boards and perimeter details.

Discreet Access Beneath the Deck

Recycled plastic posts supported the frame above the ground. Access to electrical cables beneath the decking was retained through lift-out panels.

The panels were fitted with recessed, flush-finished latches, keeping the fittings unobtrusive while allowing access when required. These small details helped the terrace look complete without overlooking its practical needs.

This balance of appearance and function reflects the attention Steve and Rees bring to their decking projects: considering how the space will be used and maintained alongside how it looks.

Our approach

We believe a well-designed garden should be a pleasure to live in, thoughtfully built and made to last.

For us, good design starts with listening. We take time to understand how you want to use your garden, what matters to you and the character of your home.

We bring the same care to construction as we do to design. From the preparation beneath a patio to the finishing details around a border, each part contributes to the quality of the whole garden.

We favour materials suited to their purpose and planting that can thrive in its surroundings. We consider how your garden will mature and how much maintenance you want, creating a space you can enjoy for years to come.
