Garden landscaping makeover in Harrow

Harrow

Trex decking, a timber pergola and raised planting transformed a storage-dominated garden into an inviting outdoor space in Harrow.

Steve Richardson and Rees De Liege bring practical experience and careful workmanship to garden design and landscaping at S&R Landscapes. This project shows how a clear layout and coordinated materials can make much better use of a compact garden.

A large steel storage structure occupied more than half the space. What had initially seemed useful had become a place for unwanted items, leaving little room to enjoy the garden.

Making Room for Outdoor Living

The homeowners had recently completed an extension and wanted their garden to complement it. The existing porcelain patio was to remain, while the oversized storage structure needed removing.

The brief called for a composite deck with a pergola and lighting, together with a smaller replacement shed. Clearance and waste removal were important considerations when establishing the scope and cost of the work.

For Steve and Rees, understanding these practical requirements is part of planning a garden that suits both your priorities and your budget.

A Pergola, Planting and a Coordinated Colour Palette

A traditional timber pergola introduced structure, with additional horizontal detailing providing a degree of privacy. A contemporary grey finish coordinated it with the decking and the raised sleeper planters.

After comparing decking options, the homeowners chose Trex in Foggy Wharf. Its grey tones brought the different elements together, creating a consistent palette alongside the retained patio.

LED uplights highlighted the pergola, with further lighting beside the planter containing Trachelospermum jasminoides. Planting softened the structure and added greenery around the seating space.

Namgrass artificial turf completed the remaining area, installed over a 10 mm foam comfort layer to create a softer surface underfoot.

Careful Preparation and Trex Decking Installation

Removing the storage structure involved clearing approximately three tonnes of steel. Its existing concrete base was retained beneath the new decking, with packers raising the supporting structure above it.

Side-fixed clips created consistent gaps between the boards, and Trex Protect tape was used on the supporting frame. These installation details contributed to a neatly finished deck.

Steve and Rees give the same attention to preparation, setting out and finishing in their landscaping work, considering how each element connects with the rest of the garden.

Our approach

We believe a well-designed garden should be a pleasure to live in, thoughtfully built and made to last.

For us, good design starts with listening. We take time to understand how you want to use your garden, what matters to you and the character of your home.

We bring the same care to construction as we do to design. From the preparation beneath a patio to the finishing details around a border, each part contributes to the quality of the whole garden.

We favour materials suited to their purpose and planting that can thrive in its surroundings. We consider how your garden will mature and how much maintenance you want, creating a space you can enjoy for years to come.
