Trex composite decking in Rickmansworth

Rickmansworth

A sloping garden became a welcoming entertaining space, with Trex decking and surrounding planting in Rickmansworth.

Steve Richardson and Rees De Liege bring practical experience, careful setting out and attention to finish to their work at S&R Landscapes. This project shows how landscaping can turn an awkward part of a garden into a space with a clear purpose.

More Space for Family and Friends

The homeowners wanted another area for entertaining. With their children now young adults, a separate place to spend time with friends would allow different members of the family to enjoy the garden at the same time.

The brief called for a comfortable outdoor space that fitted into the garden, with planting to soften its edges and materials that would be straightforward to care for.

Working with the Garden’s Slope

The garden’s moderate slope shaped the approach. Cutting into the lawn created room for a decking structure, establishing a usable area within the existing landscape.

The excavation was carried out by hand and involved removing around 16 tonnes of material. Careful preparation and setting out were important in connecting the new space with its surroundings.

Planting around the deck introduced colour and softened the transition to the rest of the garden. For Steve and Rees, these connections deserve as much consideration as the decking itself.

Trex Decking with a Coordinated Finish

The homeowners selected Trex Transcend in Island Mist for its grey tones and reduced upkeep compared with conventional timber decking. A border in the same colour gave the terrace a defined edge, complemented by Foggy Wharf fascia.

The resulting palette provided a quiet backdrop for the surrounding plants. Consistent detailing brought the boards, border and fascia together into a considered finish.

Composite decking still needs cleaning and care. Any manufacturer warranty is subject to the applicable product terms, including installation and maintenance requirements. Steve and Rees can help you consider these practical details alongside appearance when planning your deck.

Our approach

We believe a well-designed garden should be a pleasure to live in, thoughtfully built and made to last.

For us, good design starts with listening. We take time to understand how you want to use your garden, what matters to you and the character of your home.

We bring the same care to construction as we do to design. From the preparation beneath a patio to the finishing details around a border, each part contributes to the quality of the whole garden.

We favour materials suited to their purpose and planting that can thrive in its surroundings. We consider how your garden will mature and how much maintenance you want, creating a space you can enjoy for years to come.
